7 Day Detroit Adventure: Walleye Fishing, Camping, Downtown Exploring & a Tigers Game

7 Days Adventuring Detroit

We spent seven days adventuring in Detroit fishing for walleye on the Detroit River, camping nearby, exploring downtown, and experiencing parts of the city we had never seen before.

It quickly became more than just a trip. It became one of those chapters you know you’ll come back to with some really special milestones behind the scenes.

The E-Scooter Incident

If you watched the video, you might remember the moment around timestamp 11:01. Kyle returns the e-scooter, says, “That’s all there is to it,” and we walk away.

What you don’t see?

About twenty minutes later, we realized his phone the one we were using for directions around Detroit was still strapped to the scooter.

Instant panic.

We rushed back, fully expecting the worst. In a busy downtown area, it didn’t feel promising.

But somehow it was still there. Exactly where we left it our faith in humanity restored and a reminder that sometimes things work out better than you expect.

Walleye Fishing in Detroit: What to Expect

One of the biggest highlights of this trip was experiencing walleye fishing in Detroit.

If you’ve never fished here before, it’s something special.

Detroit sits on a world-class fishery, and whether you’re fishing from a boat on the Detroit River or casting from shore, there are plenty of opportunities to get in on the action. From the boat, anglers often drift or troll deeper channels using jigs tipped with soft plastics or live bait. Fishing from shore can be just as rewarding especially near current breaks, piers, or access points along the river where walleye move through.

If you’re planning a Detroit trip, this is absolutely something worth building your adventure around.

Things to Do in Detroit: Fishing, Exploring & a Tigers Game

This trip wasn’t just about fishing. It was about experiencing everything Detroit has to offer.

We spent time exploring downtown Detroit by foot and by the Detroit People Mover taking in the energy of the city, and seeing a completely different side of adventure than we’re used to.

One of the highlights?

Going to a Detroit Tigers baseball game.

There’s something about stepping into that atmosphere the crowd, the lights, the energy that makes you feel part of something bigger. It added a completely different layer to the trip and reminded us that adventure doesn’t always take place in the backcountry.

Sometimes, it looks like a night at the ballpark with good company.

If you’re looking for things to do in Detroit, combining outdoor experiences like fishing with city moments like this is what makes it unforgettable.

Health, Perspective & Slowing Down

This trip also came during a time when we were navigating something behind the scenes, Kyle’s gout flares.

If you’ve experienced it, you know how painful and unpredictable it can be.

Since wrapping this adventure, those flares have stayed at bay and that alone feels like something worth celebrating.

It’s a reminder that health shapes everything. It changes how you move through an adventure. How you appreciate the good days and never take any moment for granted.
